LASER HAIR REMOVAL

Laser hair removal is a safe and effective way to remove unwanted hair from the arms, back, bikini area, face, legs, and underarms. It is designed to get rid of unwanted hair in virtually any part of your body. Improve Health Solutions uses the state- of – the – art Lumenis Light Sheer Duet laser hair removal system, virtually a pain free procedure that can often meet patients’ goals.

Lumenis LightSheer Duet

The LightSheer Duet is a laser that produces a larger beam of highly concentrated light. The light emitted is well absorbed by the pigment located in the hair follicles. During the procedure, the laser pulses a fraction of a second, allowing the hair to absorb the light and heat up. As it heats up, the hair shaft and bulb are damaged which significantly impedes hair to re-grow.

The HS hand piece also allows for faster treatments than other traditional hair removal alternatives. This handpiece uses vacuum assisted technology in combination with a diode laser light to allow for rapid and comfortable treatment of large areas. The ET handpiece with Chilltip (R) cooling for smaller areas eliminates the need for topical numbing creams or messy gels.

The LightSheer Duet is the gold standard in laser hair removal. The number of treatments required depends on several factors , including hair and skin type. Laser hair removal treats hair in an active growth phase. Since not all hairs are in this active phase at one given time, 4-6 treatments may be necessary for best results. An occasional touch up treatment may also be necessary.

Before your appointment:

  • It is imperative that you avoid sun exposure and tanning beds for at least 4 weeks prior to your treatment. This is a must and no exceptions will be made.

  • Tanning creams and self- tanners should be avoided for at least 2 weeks

  • Inform your practitioner if you are taking any medications, herbal supplements, or acne medications like Accutane within the past year

  • Do not tweeze, wax, or epilate the area being treated for approximately 6 weeks prior to treatment

  • The night before your treatment thoroughly shave all areas to be treated.

The Day of Your Appointment:

  • If possible, arrive without creams or make up on the treatment area

  • Allow at least 20 minutes to 1 hr for your appointment A test spot will be done to ensure that the settings used are compatible with your skin. For darker skin types, allow 48-72 hrs before skin changes can appear.

  • Just prior to your treatment , you will be given eye shields to protect your eyes.

Post Treatment:

  • Shortly after treatment, the treated areas may appear swollen with red bumps. Cold pack will be provided for comfort. You may continue to apply these compresses over the next 24 hours. We recommend 5-10 minute application. Treated areas may stay red for several days though swelling should dissipate and improve within a few hours.

  • Treated hairs will naturally expel over the next 10-14 days.

  • Avoid irritating the treated area with aggressive exfoliation, such as a bath puff or scrub. Do not pick at or pluck/tweeze residual hairs. You may shave these residual hairs.

  • Treated areas should be kept out of direct sunlight

  • Sun protection is imperative after any laser treatment. A broad spectrum UVA/UVB sunscreen of SPF 30 or greater should be worn on treated areas everyday for 4-6 weeks after treatment.

What to Expect after Treatment:

  • You may continue to remove hair by shaving only in between treatments

  • Average number of treatments vary depending on skin and hair type

  • Treatments are scheduled 6-10 weeks apart, depending on body part being treated

  • Avoid any harsh chemicals or topical products such as retinols, glycol in acid, chemical peels, or other facials for at least one week after

  • Blistering and crusting are rare, however if these do occur , a thin layer of over the counter antibiotic can be applied 2-3 x a day for 3 days. Please notify us of any adverse effects or if you experience any uncommon reactions.

FAQ’s

Q: What does laser hair removal feel like? Is it painful?

A: Most people will not feel pain as they undergo laser hair removal with the LightSheer Duet system.
Although pain is an individual feeling, most patients express the sensation as tolerable. Improve Health Solutions does a test spot during your initial consultation so you can feel for yourself.

Q: What should I do before treatment?

  • It is imperative that you avoid sun exposure and tanning beds for at least 4 weeks prior to your treatment. This is a must and no exceptions will be made.

  • Tanning creams and self- tanners should be avoided for at least 2 weeks

  • Inform your practitioner if you are taking any medications, herbal supplements, or acne medications like Accutane within the past year

  • Do not tweeze, wax, or epilate the area being treated for approximately 6 weeks prior to treatment

  • The night before your treatment thoroughly shave all areas to be treated.

Q: What should I expect after a treatment?

A: Your skin may be red and bumpy after a treatment. This is absolutely normal. Post treatment, we recommend protecting the area from the sun to avoid any additional heat to the area. We also recommend avoiding exercise, saunas, and other activities which may irritate the area or induce heat for 24-48 hrs immediately post treatment.

Q: How many treatments will I need?

A: Hair grows in continuous cycle. The anagen or growth phase is the target of laser hair reduction. This phase contains the most melanin and it is understood that there is an average 20-30 % of anagen growth phase at any given time. Most patients will require a minimum of 3 treatments. Repeated sessions are necessary. If you suffer from hormone imbalance you may need ongoing treatments.

Q: Does the LightSheer Duet work on different skin colors?

A: The LightSheer Duet laser system safely and effectively all skin types ( Fitzpatrick skin types I-VI). For darker skin types, appropriate fluences are generally lower and appropriate pulse widths are generally longer to prevent damage to the epidermis which s the outer layer of skin. Using the appropriate treatment parameters people with all skin types can benefit from laser hair removal with the LightSheer Duet. Patients with lighter hair/ white hair have no melanin or pigment so they are not candidates for laser hair removal.

Q: Does the LightSheer Duet work on tanned skin?

A: A tan is damage to the skin. When it is damaged, it creates a “tan” or color. This is the melanin deposit in the skin. The laser is targeting melanin. The technology in the LightSheer Duet allows the skin to be cooled effectively to not traumatized the “tan”. The energy used to treat tanned skin has to be reduced to accommodate tanned skin. A patient with tanned skin may require more treatments. Than someone without a tan. To have a more effective and aggressive treatment, it would be better not to have a tan.

Q: Is the LightSheer Duet FDA approved?

A: The LightSheer diode laser system has been cleared by the FDA for hair removal and permanent hair reduction on all skin types and tanned skin.
